Burstable RAM OpenVZ uses fewer resources when compared to Xen and comes with hard memory limits. Instead of offering SWAP space, OpenVZ offers burstable memory. Burst memory is only used if it's available on the server. For example, a openvz vps with 512 MB dedicated RAM will have total of 1 GB bustable RAM that can be used if available on the main node. Once the limit is reached, the vps will start giving out of memory errors. If the main node runs out of memory, it will limit VPS's to their dedicated RAM limit by killing processes until their is enough memory available.
